About Awyn

Awyn Beatrix Rileybird is a professional lecturer in preventive conservation at George Washington University and an Andrew W. Mellon Fellow in textile conservation at the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian.

 

Awyn completed their graduate training in the Winterthur/ University Delaware Program in Art Conservation (WUDPAC). Over their three-year training, Awyn was the recipient of a National Endowment for the Humanities graduate training fellowship. This fellowship allowed Awyn to develop advanced research and organize community-engaged conservation outreach activities.

 

Awyn has more than ten years of experience teaching, organizing university research events, and conserving collections of significant cultural value. 

 

Awyn is keenly interested in preventive conservation and heritage conservation research. They have conducted technical analysis on a wide range heritage materials including painted surfaces, pigments, gilding, metal threads, textiles, paper, and wooden objects.
